Basic Training (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I gotta say - everytime I read one of Marquesate´s book I get soaked up in "military world" feeling. And I´m saying "world" because it really is something on it´s own, something different that what would a civilian see. Even when there´s a story about a veteran, you get to see it as a soldier, not as a civilian. To be able to see something from this point of view...to be able to see (at least marginaly) things I see from almost completely opposite point of view (not even a sports material by a far shot versus soldiers...x.x), I really dig it.:D Because here, it comes with everything. Swear words, drill with sweat and tears and haters using actual fists not just words. You say you hate that? And I say I´m glad someone´s showing some of the world´s facts with no pink tinted glasses on - weather bad or good.At the same time you get to find out that though one´s a civilian and "they" are soldiers we all are just humans. Humans with basically the same wants and troubles...shortly same shit to deal with, just in different areas or extremes. To watch Chris and Col´s whole arrangement go through all the years with every change that directed it´s course little by little till the "grand finale" was quite something, indeed. All in all, though the book didn´t have quite an impact on me as some of the others, I gladly recommend it for anyone who is interested in military environment, impact of DADT even after it´s repeal, or simply for anyone who appreciates m/m themed amazingly written books. This book was a really good read, I fell in love with Col and Chris as a couple. Although it did take a while for me to connect with Col, but after a while I fell in love with him too. Both characters grew and developed a lot during the book, and by the end they were where they had to be. Chris was a great person from the beginning, I loved the fact he was comfortable with his sexuality. There was only one reason that I marked it down, and that is a big thing for me. But overall the book was good, so I am giving it 4 stars and recommending it :)
