Beast (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

OK There is not much you can say. I love Faye Kellerman. All her novels are well written and keep you in suspense all the way through the mystery. She has written more than 15 stories in her Peter Decker and Rina Lazerus series and she has avoided the plague of the mystery writer, formula plots. Each of her stories are different and creative. Her characters are growing not only in age, but in experiencing life's ups and downs and ins and outs. Their children are growing and changing. Their relationship continues to evolve. Now they are starting to talk about retirement and moving. Kellerman is good at writing a mystery but also tying all the novels together so that characters move along with them from one story to the next and plot lines mentioned in one book carry through to the next. This is quite an enjoyable series to read and I look forward to the next book that comes out. I always enjoy a good Faye Kellerman. I picked this one up while in Los Angeles. Her attention to detail in the descriptions of place made this much more real as we were hiking through the Santa Monica hills. There are ample plot twists and turns. And while, I thought I had figured it out--and I was close--there is a surprise at the end. While the focus in this book was more on Peter, I would like to see a return to Rina as crime solver rather than supporting cast member. I enjoy the detail about their Jewish lives. This book provides a good summer read and break from the ongoing news
