Ben Ölmeden Önce (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Another of Author Palmer's stand alone medical thrillers. Medical thriller - Dr. Thea Sperelakis returns to Boston when her father is struck by a car and put in a coma. She is urged to take her father's position at the hospital but some factions block her way. With security guard Dan, she looks for the secret beyond mysterious patient deaths and miraculous recoveries. Showcase for Thea's Asperger's Syndrome. This book could never have more than three stars because the writing is in that modern sell-a-book vein that has little depth to its diction. The characters aren't developed until absolutely necessary either because the plot has to come first in a book like this, which means I am not going to like it. No character in here is particularly deep.Nevertheless, the plot is very good. The second opinion provided by Thea is that of a good formula protagonist: the picture only looks good when you don't see the details, and then the details end up telling the entire story. I enjoyed the ending a lot because it was one of those events that I slapped myself for not getting immediately. I also enjoyed the progression of the plot. There was a laundry list of antagonists and Palmer does a good job of going through them up to the end. However, the lack of great descriptive writing or great character development forces a 3-star ceiling; in that sense, I'm gladly willing to give this book all of them.

What do You think about Ben Ölmeden Önce (2012)?

[Hell yes SPOILERS]The summary got me excited since it's mystery and all but the story was so slow in its pacing it got me bored. For me, the whole thing felt rushed and pushed together for the sake of plot development which it failed to deliver. Alright the lame parts were the random murdered gay priest, the whole Dan and Thea hooking up with no date whatsoever, the stupid break-in which was totally unnecessary if Thea had brains to ask help from Dimitri who has a 180 IQ to hack the records, the pathetic assault of Thea in the parking lot which she survived and immediately thought of Dan's manhood and nothing else(the culprit was a soldier from Afghanistan and he didn't even finish the job at least he could have raped her that way Thea would actually have character development and recover from her rape to become a bad ass main character but no), and that's all I can think of.Anyway, the only reason why I finished the book was for Dimitri and that's it.

Dr. Thea Sperelakis has grown up struggling with Asperger's syndrome, but found peace as a doctor in a third world country. Until her father was hit by a car and she had to return to the States. She begins to delve into the circumstances surrounding his accident, she begins to realize his accident may not have been accidental at all. All was going well with this book, until a plot twist occurred that was identical to a plot twist in a previous novel I had read by Michael Palmer. I don't like recycling of ideas. I think I am probably finished with medical mysteries.

I don't want to give anything away, but I found the ending rather forced.
