This was a surprise. I really did not expect to be as captured by this book as I was. It was clever, funny and thought provoking. Werewolves, vampires, humans, an alternate universe, a sassy female detective with a straight man stoic golem as a partner, twists and surprises and political intrigue....I seriously could not put the book down and I could not have asked any more from an author. I can't wait to read the next one and the three prior to this one. I may not sleep for a week but WORTH IT!!! Another enjoyable romp. There's nothing new or startling here but the story is well-crafted, and the underlying thread of witty self-deprecation and sarcasm flows readily and more deeply than just the characters, saving the plot themes from becoming just too boringly trite. I felt this book was the most enjoyable in the series to date, perhaps with the exception of the first. It felt as though the author had rediscovered her initial enthusiasm. The writing felt fresher; the original themes revitalised. If I could give it three and a half stars I would. As it is, it doesn't quite rate a 'four' for me, so I'm giving it a 'three'. A good weekend read.
What do You think about Better Off Undead (2011)?
I enjoyed this book as I did the others but it definitely took me longer to read it.
