You may agree with me, or you may not, but I didn't like this book all that much. The idea of the story, I will admit, was great. The back of the book drew me in immediately. It seemed interesting and the words in the book also weren't printed in large text, which is usually a sign of depth, detail, and quite frankly, a well-written book. Unfortunately it was not a well written book, which sorely disappointed me. The text was boring, the details were vague, and and the story (even though the summary made it seem amazing) was too complex for a story without more detail, and (although part of the fantasy genre) it was super unbelievable. It was set in a world so entirely different from ours that it seemed extremely difficult to imagine (the lack of detail didn't help that cause either). This is a world that needs to be written about like Middle-Earth was written about. It didn't go into lengthy detail about every single place, but at least the reader could understand the different, magical land that Tolkien was trying to get them to imagine. It didn't seem like a human wrote the book. It was dry. It told us just enough to get the story across to us, and give us the slightest bit of an image. She gave a better description of Alan's appearance than she did her own main character's! Now, don't you agree that that is just a tiny bit INSANE? We don't even learn her hair colour until a few chapters in.I think I've made my point. I'll stop complaining now, but at least I've said what I was honestly thinking about this book. From me, Between the Sea and the Sky gets only two stars. Esmerine and her sister Dosinia have always been fascinated by the land. As they grew older they were recruited to become siren, the highest ranking mermaid. Dosinia, being the oldest, was the first to become a siren. Esmerine is next and is so excited to be with her sister, but her sister disappears on to land the first day. Esmerine is going to find her. On land she catches up with her old friend Alander. Alander is one of the winged beings. On their adventures love is discovered. This love is bigger than the sea, the sky, and air.
