Bible Camp Bloodbath (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

this book's title is refreshingly honest.are you looking for a story of a bloodbath taking place at a bible camp??lo!hark!recognize!!i have found your book, friend!if you are looking for an book wherein bad things happen to innocent children, this is it! sure to brighten the saddest day!plus, there are handy reference materials at the back for those of you looking for page numbers featuring a specific murder method or context, and isn't that what we are all looking for, in life, if we are brutally honest with ourselves? it will not take you long to read, and may help you get closer to the triumphant conclusion to your very own personal reading challenge! i heartily recommend this book to all fans of senseless violence and both types of camp.not all canadians are cuddly! Joey's books do funny things to me. That's pretty much how I describe all of them when I lend them to people. This one is no different. I'm always looking for novels that are going to make me feel something, even if it's something uncomfortable in the pit of my stomach that I can't really describe. This book was full of those moments, except I can describe them. I wasn't ever terrified or even a little bit scared of what was going to happen to the characters, but I was always surprised, and a little disgusted. Disgusted in a good way, though. I definitely had moments while I was reading where I felt like I was in a theater, gripping the arm rests because of the suspense, or shouting at the screen begging a character not to do something and being more upset than usual when they didn't listen. Reading this book was kind of like watching a bloody train wreck happen in slow motion, in someone's pants. Or, I guess in your own pants, depending on your view on things. I read this novel in one sitting, I couldn't rip myself away from it because I was pretty invested in all the characters. Its constantly surprising to me that despite how short Joey Comeau's books are, the characters are so fully fleshed out that you really want to know what happens to them, even after the story is over. I guess for me, it's due to how emotional his stories are. Bible Camp Bloodbath is a horror novel, filled with gore and the sexual absurdities you would expect from something that seems to be in the same vein of the classic slashers, with a little dash of Sleepaway Camp thrown in, but Martin really is the heart of the story. Personally, I could relate to the awkwardness of his relationships to the other characters, and the fact that he had sort of an unusual relationship with his mother. I guess familial relationships and adolescent friendships can be a horror show in and of themselves.Obviously, I loved the book. I wish he would write more horror because I loved this one and One Bloody Thing After Another because of the warmth that he's brought to a genre, that for me, has turned really cold and formulaic.

What do You think about Bible Camp Bloodbath (2010)?

Not quite what I wanted it to be, but then it also almost made me miss my stop.

Very gruesome, and funny. Certainly shocking in places but a good short read.

A kind of boring bible camp where everybody gets killed.
