Raiko is determined to save Misao from Kyo insisting she is possessed! Finally Misao, gives up and talks with Kyo who decided to take drastic measures to protect Misao from Raiko and save their relationship. But things go wrong when Raiko hurts Misao and Kyo tries to clean her blood only to be poisoned by Raiku's holy water, the only way to save Kyo that Misao knows is my consummating their love and becoming his bride. So finally, Kyo and Misao finally make love and the prophecy of the Senka Maiden begins. This volume was... fine. It's been a while since I read the other volumes in the series - I probably should have re-read some of the build-up volumes instead of jumping right into this one. Misao and Kyo are still trying to figure out where to go with their relationship since they still don't have the full history on the Senka maiden. On guard against attacks from other demon clans looking to steal the Senka maiden, it's a surprise when the next attack comes not from other demons but from a human.Demon hunter Raikoh Watanabe has returned to staying with Misao's family, and has brought back with him the "Dojigiri Yasutsuna" a sword with mystical powers used to fight and ward off demons. He uses it to place a deadly curse on Kyo, poisoning Misao against him (temporarily) so Kyo can't feed off her blood to gain enough power to throw off the curse. The demon clans draw in further as Kyo weakens, and he and Misao must decide whether or not to resort to sleeping together so Kyo can gain the strength to throw off the curse, even if it tears the two of them apart. It was interesting. It's been months since I read any other volumes in the series, so I kind of forgot some of what was going on. You should probably review the earlier volumes before this one as a refresher, but that's true about pretty much any series, I guess. But because of that, I wasn't really all that caught up in the plot anymore. I still thought it was a good read, though. It was interesting, and I didn't remember much about Raikoh so he was still an interesting plot twist. We find out more about his character in this volume too. Lots of plot development period. Things are finally going to come to a head about the whole Senka situation (instead of dragging on for another how many volumes) and we'll get to see in the next volumes how that is going to turn out. So it's still a good series. Very cute artwork.
What do You think about Black Bird, Vol. 8 (2011)?
Oh the drama! The plot definitely thickened in this installment and the readers finally get to see a big moment that has been building since the first volume. It came off a lot more desperate, scary and sad than expected, but there are demons involved I guess.Either way this issue marks a turning point in the series as a line has been crossed that cannot be backed back over. From now on nothing is for sure and the characters will always be guessing.
