Jack and Annie are about to begin another adventure. This time, Merlin wants them to prove they can use their magic wisely. He is going to send them to real times and real places in history. They always get help from two young sorcerers Teddy and Kathleen. Jack and Annie love climbing into their tree house and getting their next mission. But they must wait for the magical tree house to appear. They hope it’s somewhere fun! Annie rushes in and tells Jack the tree house is back! Jack grabs his backpack and the Magic Rhymes book and off they go. It’s a cold November night rush to the tree house. There they find a book and scroll of parchment paper with a note and poem on it. Jack and Annie must decipher the poem in order to accomplish their mission. Using their book of magical rhymes to help them along the way, they discover many sights. They are transported to New York in 1938 during the depression. Jack and Annie must save the Unicorn that is in captivity before the evil Gilda and Balor take him back to their evil wizard. Throughout their adventure in New York, Annie and Jack visit Central Park on a cold snowy night, the Belvedere Castle, the Bronx Zoo, and the Cloisters of the Metropolitan Museum. They must learn to navigate the streets of New York where people and businesses are suffering during the Depression. Using their rhyme book and working together, Jack and Annie defeat Gilda and Balor and save the unicorn.

Merlin gave Jack and Annie a special mission to save a unicorn under a mystical spell. This will not be easy because the Great Depression is in their presence and people are crowding the streets. Jack and Annie have almost no money so it is hard to get transportation to there destination. Will the unicorn be freed or will it be cast under a spell and trapper forever? You will have to read to find out.tI like this book because it has action and I didn’t want to put the book down. I also like the book because the conflict and solution was put together well. I enjoyed ever word of the book. I think other people should read it because it has a little bit of suspense. I like those types of books, but it might not be true for others. I would give this book a four out of five star rating.
I was never a big fan of this series, even as a little kid, but the glamor and glitz of this glittery book drew me in. Unfortunately the wonderful cover art is the only saving grace to this book; the text itself is choppy, inconsistent and drags on. Jack and Annie are still just as dorky and whiny as I remember, and their mom seems rather neglectful if her two kids are spending more time in a wooden box in the woods than they are at home with her. There's nothing wrong with vibrant imagination, but what kind of children spend their free time reenacting historical moments in a treehouse?

Mary Pope Osborn has created a world with the Magic Tree House series that children can come back to again and again and experience a new adventure with each story. In Blizzard of the Blue Moon Jack and Annie are sent on another quest by Merlin to free a imprisoned unicorn somewhere in New York City in a blizzard during the Great Depression. The cover of the book is very shiny, which will help draw a child’s attention to it. There are a few black and white pictures in the book ever few pages to show what things might have looked like during the great depression.Level: 2nd – 4th Social Studies – Students can use this book as an introduction when learning about the Great Depression.

I chose this book because as I have mentioned in my other review of the series, I have enjoyed readin Mary Pop Osborne since I was 9 years old. The plot of this book is that Jack and Annie end up in NYC and have to rescue Merlin's unicorn, trapped under a spell under a tapestry at a museum. My favorite quote would have to be, "The wind started to blow. The tree house started to spin. It spun faster and faster. Then everything was still," because it has a lot of imagery and creates a strong visual of what it was like being in the tree house. Mary Pop Osborne has a very unique and descriptive writing style, which makes her books so alive in my mind. I would recommend it to people who love fiction and unicorns because a story about saving a unicorn is fascinating to many unicorn lovers, in my opinion.
