Fleeting scenes flashed across my brain, a glimpse of the real world here and there, like a badly edited 8 mm film. In among those harsh clips of reality was darkness, sweet oblivion. My battered sanity clung to those, a calming salve of nothingness, a protective casing that kept reality at bay. I didn’t know I was in shock.
