Life from the point of view of upper middle class young women and mothers in middle America. Characters crossing into different stories can be hard to track but gives different angles on shared themes and episodes. Not entirely happy book; it draws heavily on experiences of being an adolescent woman in a sexually charged, sexist and at times violent (by young men) world. Some things are done to women, other things are done by women. All colour the women who emerge at the end of each story. A good lesson in empathy. I like that this is a collection of stories so I could pick it up and put it down at intervals. Helps with my hectic lifestyle and trying to read a single book through the holidays. :) Disturbing at times but fascinating, as well. I loved the author's style and how I felt I gained insight into lives of girls I have never understood. I still don't fully understand. This is a book with varying perspectives.
I'm still thinking about the characters, the stories, days later. That's a good book. :)
