Bond On Bond: Reflections On 50 Years Of James Bond Movies (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I knew this would be an enjoyable read. Also from Sir Roger I have previously read "Roger Moore's James Bond Diary" that tells his account of filming his first Bond film LIVE AND LET DIE and his autobiography entitled "My Word Is My Bond". He is a pretty good writer and his trademark sense of humor always shines through his writing. He had a co-author for this book as it would be difficult for a man in his 80s to do the entire thing himself. I am sure his co-writer helped him with research. I can tell the parts that Sir Roger himself wrote. If you know him well from his interviews, DVD commentaries and other books then you can tell. He included some new info about the series I did not know which is always welcome. He even includes tidbits and pictures from Bond films he did not even star in. I like how the book is organized into the essential Bond categories. My only major compliant is that Sir Roger still has not seen all the Bond films. He does not have to see them and that is not really a fair criticism of the book, but I figured a person who was writing a book surveying 50 years of James Bond films would have seen all of them. There are still a handful of the films he has not seen and I would love to hear is opinion of them. From this book I found out that he has seen at least one of Dalton's (his successor as Bond) films. He thinks that LICENCE TO KILL was too violent, just like he does with QUANTUM OF SOLACE. If you are a big fan of Bond and Sir Roger especially then you will enjoy this book. I would have liked a little more about the history of Bond and how the character has changed over the years or how the character has evolved across the various novels, but this book is mainly about Roger Moore's personal experience both in his time playing Bond and in the times after he passed the torch on to someone else. Even though Moore can sometimes drone on for quite some time, there's still a ton of information about how the different actors portrayed Bond differently, the struggles of Eon Productions, all pretty well organized into different topics (e.g. Bond on Cars, Bond on Girls, Bond on Screen, etc.), a lot of good-to-knows.
What do You think about Bond On Bond: Reflections On 50 Years Of James Bond Movies (2012)?
If you like Roger Moore one-liners and his self-depreciating witticisms, this is enjoyable enough.
