Actually, this was almost 4 stars. It was a good story, but predictable. I found the writing technically well done, but it did drag on at times. A good read, but not one of my favorites. I also had a hard time getting over some of the scientific inaccuracies - how could a supposed mummy be so intact it still had eyelashes? How could the main character touch and move the mummy so frequently without harming it? if she was such the scientist, wouldn't she handle a relic differently? I don't think the author was much of a scientist or archeologist herself. I like Megan Chance's writing; it's nice escapism, and the plots are simple, old fashioned mysteries. This story's mystery, however, was given away way too soon. Between 1/3 and 1/2 of the way through the novel, the reader has easily answered the most pressing question. That leaves the protagonist to frustrate the reader by not figuring out the mystery, and a soap opera-type love triangle. Suddenly characters behave uncharacteristically, and long, drawn out decisions regarding this love triangle have to be made. The ending includes unnecessary life-threatening drama, that just further drags the story down.
