"I am shadow. I am darkness. When the sun rises, I am a wraith. I exist only when night falls".After many long hours of cleaning, cooking, and trying to convince my 5-year old that I was the mother and she the child I needed a bit of a mental break. So I headed over to Evernight Publishing to see what was being offered in Free Reads. I came across the cover of Bound by Night by Naomi Clark and...take a moment to glance at that cover...yeah, THAT part. After wiping the drool from my mouth, I added this short read to my cart, downloaded it, and promptly began to read...Adeline (lovely name, by the way) is fleeing from an arranged marriage when she happens upon an abbey. Hoping to seek sanctuary, she enters only to find the place almost empty. Almost.Daghan is the sole tenant of the abbey, cursed to spend his nights bound to the darkness and shadows unless his curse can be broken by a pure soul.I don't know about you but had Daghan been dependent on me to break his curse, he would have been in it for the long haul. Pure I am not! However, Naomi Clark has managed to create a hero so broken yet gentle that I can honestly say that I heart Daghan! This isn't even a full-length novel and he has managed to enchant me. I would have loved to have read more of his back-story, I found the premise of his curse to be quite intriguing. The love scene was exquisite, absolutely divine. Less erotic, more "romantical" (yes! I know that isn't a REAL word but it's MY word so get used to hearing it). Ms. Clark packs quite a punch in this short read. It contains romance, action, sex and a story that is sure to delight. Definitely going on my keeper shelf! An excellent short story that sizzles with heat and has just the right amount of threat to make it interesting. It's something of a pity that the story isn't longer, and that we don't get to know the characters more, but at the same time it didn't really need much more length to tell it's tale. We may only become briefly acquainted with Adeline and Daghan, but the characterization is still quite rich and they are far from being two-dimensional stereotypes as so often is the case in stories this short. It's easy to really feel their passion for one another, as well as their heartbreak when they think their loving might not have been enough to break the curse. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, hot read.
What do You think about Bound By Night (2012)?
Well. That was short. Captivating. But too short.
