“How are we going to get to the other islands?” I ask. Each island is separated by water. Unlike the waves of an ocean, this water is thick and syrupy and almost still. The idea of trying to swim through it seems impossible. Maybe it’s just me being a wimp, but I feel worried as I peer over the edge of the island I’m on and look at it more closely. What if there are creatures lurking in it? What if there are dangers? Harry points to a series of green lily pads. “You must be joking,” I scowl. “What is this? A planet of islands or a planet of children’s stories?” Sometimes, things here seem so fictitious and strange. Part of me wonders if nightmares are really just things we remember from past visits to foreign planets because it sure feels like I’m reliving a lot of bad dreams these days. “Swim if you like,” he comments, and begins walking quickly across the pads.
