Brechreizend: Die Fiesesten Reiseziele Der Welt (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I love travel books and when I picked this one up I thought it would be a nice change to read about places I shouldn't go. However most of the places are not even travel destinations, just made up locations or places that don't exist anymore. They are just lame jokes the author thinks are funny. Several of the entries are single sentences intended to be funny and extremely crude. I was needless to say let down. The authors attempt at humor failed miserably. I don't really believe the author worked very hard to write her pieces if you can even call them that so if you are looking for a good travel book don't bother with this one. I couldn't have had a more miserable time reading. Methinks those who complain that this is too "snarky," or who find it necessary to write some sort of dissertation about something they think the author inaccurately reported, should not be reading this book. They may be androids. Although, perhaps snark is an acquired taste.I found this at work when I was looking for something out in the stacks. It's a fun, funny light read. It is not serious. Got it?I have actually been to some of these places:Wall Drug (Thanks to our family's see-lots-of-famous-stuff road trip when I was in high school)Mount Rushmore (see above)A vomitoriumFour Corners (another family vacation)I have also been to places mentioned in the book, but perhaps not necessarily with the exact components that Catherine Price deems not-see-before-you-die-worthy. I saw the dressed up gladiators outside the Coliseum, but not the really gung-ho one. I was at Yellowstone, but obviously not when it exploded (obviously, since that's in the future anyway). I stayed at a hostel called The Clink, which may or may not qualify as "any hotel that used to be a prison," since it was a courthouse. I've also been to Loveland, CO many times--just not during the Testicle Festival. Dang. I feel so ripped off.Very fun read--just don't take it too seriously.
What do You think about Brechreizend: Die Fiesesten Reiseziele Der Welt (2012)?
This was a laugh-out-loud, cringe-with-repulsion kind of book. Educational albeit absurd.

Cute and Quick a nice light travel read. A so called beach read.
