I'm really enjoying this series and sincerely hope it doesn't end soon. Eric Carter is a kickass necromancer, just trying to get out of his 'marriage' to an Crazy Goddess, save some of his friends and figure out who he can trust. I'm a big fan of Dresden, and recently found Ben Aaronovitch, and I confess I was worried nothing else would come close to them. But this is good. Eric is genuinely likeable and the twists using blood and the other side make this special. So, please, Stephen B, don't stop! Bring us more Eric Carter!! Long story short: It was way too predictable and I found the pace to be too rapid. Things happened too quick to Eric to be believable, I feel we never got to know the "real" Eric before he was cast into all these situations and with the 2nd book we apparently get to know his "shit hits the fan" persona, but not the one he was before. Also why I know the whole tragic hero thing, it would be nice if once in a while the character would have something go right instead of not just wrong but totally screwed up. There's potential here but overall it feels like the story hasn't found its pace, yet and needs some more foundations.

Once I started it I could not put it down. Read it in one sitting, that good.

Really good sequel. Dark, gritty, action-packed. Cliffhanger ending though.
