Bundle Of Trouble (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This book was just what I needed on holiday. Light and easy to read, it was great fun. I didn't think that the protagonist was entirely believable, (not sure a mother would consider such a career lightly) but I didn't think it mattered. The book was clearly meant to entertain and it did that. Having said that, I have no doubt at all that Diana Orgain could write an utterly serious crime novel because the mystery behind the story intrigued me. Read it! It was good fun. Bundle of TroubleDiana Orgain(Synopsis) Within 24 hours Kate Connolly, mother of new born Laurie and wife of Jim Connolly, finds her cozy life spiraling out of control when she answers the phone and finds the San Francisco Medical Examiner on the other end of the line. A badly decomposed body has been pulled from the bay and authorities believe it may be the body of Jim's brother George because George's bags are found on the pier near the body. Kate goes into labor just after the phone call and delivers a girl, Laurie, the following morning. Two weeks later Kate calls the ME and finds that the body was identified as that of Brad Avery. When she goes to pick up George's bags she runs into Brad's wife, Michelle, who turns out to be an old school friend. She visits Michelle at her home and finds that Michelle knows George and he works at her restaurant when she prepares to go home she finds her car broken into. The next day she goes to the restaurant and finds the only one who know George is the swarmy manager. Again she find her car broken into and meets Inspector Patrick McNearny, who at first is helpful until he hears her name. The next day she returns to Michelle's house and finds her body. Kate wants to stay home with Laurie instead of returning to her old job and after speaking with Private Investigator Galigani and learning he is paid $200 per hour Kate decides she would make a great detective. Follow Kate as she digs out clues, tries to find George, take care of a newborn and function on practically no sleep. (Review) There is a reason they call it fiction and that is because this would be unlikely to ever happen in real life. Accept that and you will enjoy this book. Any new parent will sympathize with Kate and her sleep deprivation and her worry over whether or not she is providing all her daughter needs and if she is doing everything right. You will laugh at the way she is always making list and her style of investigation. The book moves quickly, flowing from scene to scene. The characters are multi-dimentional. You will find yourself rooting for Kate and you will be surprized by the ending. I know I was.

Add baby and stir, didn't work, and the ending just dragged on.
