Buttons And Bones (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

This was another good addition to the series. Betsy and Jill solve a 50 year old murder. I like that the murder is an old one. It becomes too unrealistic if Betsy is constantly solving murders of her friends. They would all be picked off to quickly.I would have liked more of the store and Godwin. I really like when she talks about the needlework. I don't like the direction Jill is taking. I thought she was better as a policewoman rather than a stay at home mom. And Betsy's relationship with her boyfriend is just boring to me. This type of mystery novel is not my cup of tea, but I am aware there is a big following of readers of these mystery "series." These mysteries feature an amateur woman sleuth whose occupation is the theme of each book in the series, i.e. caterer, librarian, or as in this case, the owner of a needle craft shop. There is usually a minor romantic element, but very tame. The writing is third person, and uncomplicated. It has a mid-western setting, and I did learn some facts about the setting of which I am somewhat unfamiliar - Minnesota. The reason I chose to read this was from a story description from a book catalog I receive; the plot sounded interesting, and I thought I would give it a try. But all is not lost - the book had a counted cross-stitch pattern included, and that was worth the read for me.
