Captain Awesome To The Rescue! (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Our latest family book club book. The grownups could have lived without it, but the 6 year olds really liked it (one has already read the sequel already). The plot is thin, and it wasn't clear to me that we'd have enough to discuss beyond my daughter's first planned questions about characters' names. But we did have a decent discussion about our own superhero names and qualities. And it did have the kids running around the house with capes shouting superhero things. Dessert was salted caramel brownies. This is the first book in a fairly new series grades K - 3. Eight-year-old Eugene McGillicudy invented his own superhero which he named Captain Awesome. Eugene moves to a new town and looks everyone for his Captain Awesome outfit, cape and all. The problem is, his mom packed it. There are several made up words but that should not deter you from reading this to kids. The kids will love this adventure seeing eight year old who seeks to save the planet from several dark forces, such as: Queen Stickypants (his little sister). Captain Awesome is sure to be a popular series among those kids who dream of being a superhero.
What do You think about Captain Awesome To The Rescue! (2012)?
My son loves these books! This may have been the first chapter book he read to himself.

Pretty bad writing, and horrible cadence.
