Cartas Extraordinárias: A Correspondência Inesquecível De Pessoas Notáveis (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Book Reviews While on Break:About as good as coffee table books get! The title sums things up nicely, so I wont bother explaining the book's premise.I especially liked the letter Flannery O'Connor wrote in response to a professor of literature asking her about "A Good Man is Hard to Find". The letters collected range from curiousities (JFK's coconut message), historical treasures (Da Vinci's cover letter for a job with the Italian Military), to life-affirming wisdom (E.B. White, I'm looking at you!). There's something for everyone in this book. I thanked my daughter for this book, saying that "it's the perfect coffee table book, with something to catch the interest of anyone." It's better than that: it's a great reference book with quotable love letters and bons mots from many. Very nice to have about if you're writing a letter of sympathy. It includes some great surprises, including the message written by John F. Kennedy on a coconut letting naval officials know that the crew of the sunken PT-109 were alive and marooned on Nauro Island. And then there's the telegram to London: "Underwriters have message from New York that Virginian is standing by Titanic and that there is no danger of loss of life == Ismay".
