Perri O’Shaugnessy a case of lies: A Nina Reilly MysteryNina Reilly a lawyer in Tahoe takes on a cold case, about a woman who was murdered at a motel and there were no apparent witnesses. The case has about 2 weeks left before all legitimate queries about the case runs it’s course. Dave Hanna, husband of murdered woman Sarah Hanna, hires Nina, after being somewhat pressured by his brother-in-law and niece to try and put some closure to the case.Nina eventually finds the witnesses and the purported mastermind behind the killing and eventually there’s a new trail of potential disasters getting ready for her.She and her son Bob become targets themselves as she tries to track down the clues and she becomes successful in finding all the witnesses, but everything does not go smoothly.Eventually, there is only one witness left and how the story ends is definitely not what one would expect. The math stuff was somewhat interesting and some of the characters were quirky and believable.
It's a testament to how much I like this series that I hung in there in this book through all the, to me, unnecessarily detailed, eyeballs-rolling-back-in-my-head lectures on Euclidean, Pythagorean, and Riemann math theory. But in typical O'Shaugnessy fashion, the twisty plot and interesting characters carried the day anyway. I miss longtime series character Paul, but it's fun to see a grown-up Wish now taking over the role of primary investigator on Nina's cases, and the introduction of a new legal rival in character Betty (a character, all right) adds some comedy and oomph to the series.
What do You think about Case Of Lies (2006)?
Nina returns to Tahoe for this case...trying to solve a 2-year-old murder to bring closure to the victim's husband. The case turns unusually violent for one of Nina's cases...several more murders take place as she tries to get to the bottom of the story.A sub-plot of quantum physics and advanced mathematics involving prime numbers gets a little deep...at times you might wonder if you got lost in a math textbook! But I did find the theories interesting. The ending was a bit disappointing...the resolution of some of the plot points were less than plausible, and the motivation of the culprit was pretty thin. I've read the entire Nina Reilly series, and while it kept me turning pages until the end, it wasn't my favorite.
