Change Your Brain, Change Your Body: Use Your Brain To Get And Keep The Body You Have Always Wanted (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
This book was interesting, though some chapters were much more so than others. It was a good reminder that everything we do affects our brain health. One big takeaway: to have a healthy brain, exercise and at least seven hours of sleep are the most important things you can do (I wasn't so thrilled about the exercise part). I found his observations from brain scans to be fascinating. A good part of the book, though, was info I already knew. Like I said, this was an interesting read, but I wasn't blown away. I feel like this book is a great read if you are looking to get in better health without the stress of body image/ and or hard-core dieting to achieve your personal goals. Amen's insight on how true health can be defined beyond your waistline is not only brilliant but a more balanced and logical approach to general health. It personally opened my eyes to the importance of basic balance. Eat, not too much, sleep well, be aware of potential or hidden hormonal problems... Following a lot of other health books this one stands out as being one that makes you think of the psychological effects of how you treat your body. Enjoyed this book but would love to see it updated and more geared towards a younger generation of people growing in a Western Diet American Culture point of view!
