“I’m sorry,” he said when she looked up. “I didn’t mean to intrude.” She shook her head. “It’s okay. You aren’t bothering me.”He smiled warmly at her. “Do you mind if I sit for a while?” he asked, as he gestured to the couch next to her.“No, that’s fine,” she smiled weakly, feeling very uncomfortable with the man who was supposed to be her father. Patrick sat down, trying to figure out what to say next. “I’m sorry I was not around for you when you were young,” he said quietly. Hannah shrugged. “It’s not like you really had a choice in the matter, right?” Patrick laughed. “A choice? No, I was not given a choice either time I was sealed inside the tomb. I do regret what happened with your mother. I’m not proud of how I acted toward the end.” He stopped talking and watched her. “Are you all right?” he asked her finally. She hadn’t spoken a word in a few minutes. “I guess. I mean, I really don’t know what to say to you. I know that you’re my father, but I don’t know you at all.
