Chicken Soup For The Teenage Soul On Tough Stuff (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
I was going out with my first boyfriend, I was an honor student and schoolwork seemed pretty easy. I was always busy after school, with voice lessons, dance class, play practice and auditions. I loved having so much going on in my life. I felt like I could handle anything. In October of that year, I got the best news—I had landed a role on an HBO show called The Sopranos. We had shot the pilot episode the previous June, but now I learned that it was going to be a full series. Filming didn’t start until the next June, after school let out. I didn’t think things could get better, but that left room for things to get worse. Just two weeks after I found out about The Sopranos, my boyfriend broke up with me with no explanation. I felt like my life was over. I cried for days, moping around. I didn’t want to go to dance class, and I didn’t even want to go to school. I wondered why he’d broken up with me and began to fear that it was because I wasn’t as pretty or as skinny as the other girls we knew, so I put myself on a small diet—“just to lose five pounds.”
