In "Child of the Ghosts" by Jonathan Moeller, a murderous villain takes everything away from young Caina. Caina made of sterner stuff trains for years to become the weapon she must be. She is earnest and patient in her training in non-weapon combat, knives, espionage, and seduction. Will everything she's worked toward lead her into the final moment of Vengeance? A very fascinating gritty supernatural read. Though the story follows the main character Caina from childhood to near young adulthood, this story not your average coming of age tale. Along the way, it depicts detestable, horror-filled, torturous scenes that raise the level of the reader's wonder and their investment until the end of the story. We meet intriguing characters on the way. The world built in this book is very elaborate. I hope to learn more of it in sequential books in this series.Do not expect a truly happy ending. Nothing is happy in the world of an assassin. I got to 55% before I got annoyed.1) Entirely too many typos and general grammatical miscues.2) Caina is the most unbelievable character in literary history. I wasn't buying a single second of it.3) The only interesting character was the villain, and he was too busy faffing about with necromancy to be a true antagonist to the main character, save for killing her father a few chapters into the book.4) Seriously, this is the problem with free stuff on the Kindle store. Every fool with a word processor can spew forth whatever they like without proper editing. Makes for a piss poor reading experience when you can't sort out what's going down because an author misplaced his character names.
