Very good book, exciting reading, especially toward the end. Wahoo's mom is in China on a temporary work assignment and he and his dad are baching it at their home in the Florida swamps. Dad is an animal wrangler, someone who raises and handles dangerous animals for the movie industry and other venues; and Wahoo has grown up knowing how to handle and care for gators, pythons, snapping turtles, and other hazardous critters.Enter Derek Badger, the star of a reality survival show but really a pampered and egotistical star who believes his own publicity ads. Wahoo's dad is hired to wrangle the animals Derek encounters, but Derek gets himself in more and more trouble as he refuses to believe those animals are not his benign little friends. As Wahoo's dad has little patience with fools and Derek is indeed foolish, Wahoo's job is to keep Derek safe while keeping peace between the two. A complicated situation gets further complicated when Tuna arrives sporting a new and very obvious black eye. She's a girl in Wahoo's class who is escaping from her abusive, half-crazy, and drunk father. Protecting Tuna, keeping Derek as safe from his own ineptitude, and fending off Tuna's father make for an exciting read. 4th or 5th grade and up, boys and girls who like action books. "Chomp" by Carl Hiaasen is a thrilling book from beginning to end. This book takes place in the everglades swamp. It is about a boy and his father who take a job on a reptile wrangling job for a television show. They think they have signed up for an ordinary job but it turns out to be a adventure of a lifetime. I recommend this book to readers of all ages who like thrilling adventure books. It will keep you wondering what's next. This suspenseful book will keep you engaged from beginning to end.
