Christmas At Harrington's (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Lena, a former pastor's wife, had been falsely accused of embezzlement and sent to prison. This story begins at her release from the correctional center and follows her struggles to begin life anew. A new town, a new job ... it should be fairly easy to start over, right? At first it appears to be so when she meets several new friends who are willing to look beyond her past and give her a chance. The other people at the boarding house are just as down on their luck as she is and the friendships she makes there bring her heart back to life. An older lady in town has taken Lena under her wing, much to her attorney son's disliking. Her new job isn't exactly what she had expected, but she blossoms as she takes on the role of Mrs. Santa. When a former church member recognizes her and causes Lena trouble, things quickly turn disastrous. This was a delightful and heartwarming short story about second chances and forgiveness and told from a Christian perspective. Christmas at Harringtons is a book that let's you believe in second chances. Lena having been just released from prision. She is feeling devestated but trying to stay motivated. On the bus ride to her new town she meets an older woman whom invites to give her a ride to church. She settles in town in a boarding house and meets a down on her luck woman with a little girl. She helps the woman get a job at the restaurant she first went to when she just got to town. She watches the womans daughter while she works. Going to the towns department store she tries to apply for a job and is told there are no jobs as the store is closing at the end of the year. The owners daughter sees Lena and convinces her mother that Lena will be the perfect department store Mrs Santa. She takes the job . At the end she s cleared lf her embezzlement charges and she has a clean record. She gets the record cleared by the woman's son that she met on the bus. He is a lawyer. This is a story of second chances and redemption. I would have liked the book to be longer but that is my only compliant.
