Christmas In Magnolia Cove (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
This was one of my d/l last year when I first got my Kindle. I hope I didn't pay for it. I don't generally like short stories (or novellas or whatever we're calling them this week), so I should have paid more attention and noticed that's what this was. Since it's less than a week until Christmas, I figured I'd make this my gym read. It was a very quick read. So I guess it has that going for it. But it was...just dumb. Girl moves back to her home town, a place she's been avoiding for years, and suddenly she's buying a house there. She surprises her mom and sister with the purchase, despite having JUST mentioned that in this town, everyone knows everyone else's business, so it's hard to believe that she could keep the secret. She fractures a bone in her foot, wears a boot, and a few days later is walking around without it or crutches, as long as she agrees not to wear heels. Um, huh? One minute she can walk and the next minute, some dude's carrying her everywhere. She's got a big hangup about being bullied in high school, but she obviously did the SAME THING to another boy! This was just awful. Madison Carter, a very successful interior decorator in Atlanta found her fiancé, Connor in bed with another woman. What should she do? Strong feelings of being bullied during her teenage years flood her insides and take over. She has to run away again. She decides to go back home to Magnolia Cove where she hopes to find time and peace to heal from her broken heart. Little did she know that she was going to have to face the man who had been the cause of all those hurt feelings during High School. Wyatt and his friends were relentless back then to make her feel less than she was. How is she going to survive the days they need to spend together restoring an old historic house she just bought on the square, and unknowingly hired him as the main contractor? How is she going to handle the intense physical attraction she has for him today and the yet festering unforgiveness she has in her heart? Above all that, her sister seems to be holding some grudges against her, and she is totally clueless as to why.Rachel Hanna has a great story line, funny and engaging. The themes raised in this Christmas flick, bullying, betrayal, and bitterness can run deep. I felt however that Madison was not an honest character. She was superficial, childish and simple in her words and attitudes. One would expect more maturity in a person who has achieved success in interior decorating in Atlanta.Wyatt also seemed a little unrealistic. He is the perfect fairytale male specimen. How is going to win Madison’s heart and give her the best Christmas ever? He has the perfect plan.It is Christmas – and we are allowed to dream. Nice and easy read!
