I've decided to read The Secrets of Droon series entirely for Christmas since i've been feeling a bit nostalgic. I want to be able to live a bit of the magic of being a kid and what beeter to help than this incredible series. I know that this series is for young kids but i feel it will still be great after all these years. The fourth book introduces us to new characters as well as new places. As in the last book the action starts really fast and it continues that way. Something that I like about this series is how hints and gives the reader clues of things that will happen in the future and in later books. It gives the reader a chance to try to guess and wonder about what is coming. The plot again centers on the kids trying to stop Sparr from fulfilling his plans. But this time his plan is to steal diamonds instead of obtaining the Red Eye of Dawn. The author continues to give us variety and changes through every book.
Once again we're back in Droon, this time in a city that just won't stay put - it drifts along in the sky.Of course the bad guys want to steal what the good guys have, so it's up to our adventurers to save the day.Again, this is a fun adventure series witha fascinating world that the author has worked hard to construct. At the same time, I'm frustrated by the lack of detail and really wish we could spend more time exploring, and getting a bit deeper into the characterization. Every story feels like it should have been told with a lot more words, probably at a higher grade level. Still it's fun to read, and if you have have younger readers who love magical stories, this is a great series to start them on.
What do You think about City In The Clouds (1999)?
My friend Kim's daughter, who is in 4th grade, loves this series. When we were in Bangor on Sat. she picked up the newest copy. She has read them all!!
