This was an purchase made after seeing the Pompeii exhibit at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. What an unexpected treasure this find turned out to be. This book was an incredible journey that had you gripping the edge of your seat as you turned the pages. Beautifully written characters and descriptions that transport readers back through time and into Pompeii's streets and villas. Christianity is intricately woven as the foundation for this adventure, and I felt it was perfectly done. Tracy L. Higley clearly has done extensive research and sticks to archaeological findings and even uses some names she found on Pompeii's graffitied walls for some of her characters. I cannot wait to read other works by this author. I truly enjoyed this book, and I plan to read more by this author. This story was intriguing from the beginning, and it held my attention to the very end. I was glad that she provided a glossary of words used in the book, so that I could know what each item was throughout the book. A couple of times I had to refer back to them, but later on I was able to remember what each one meant just from the description or usage. Tracy L. Higley is an awesome writer, and I am sure that her other books are just as well written as this one was.
It was okay, but I felt like it could've been so much better.
