He applauded lightly. “That’s my girl,” he said. “Now let me look at you,” Laura said, searching his face, then raking his body with an efficient glance. He was still in his summer khakis and as healthy in appearance as when she’d first met him. “You seem to be in one piece,” she conceded. “Yes, ma’am,” he replied, deciding not to mention his leg.
