Clementine And The Family Meeting (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
We love these books. They pass pretty much all of my criteria for children's books:1: have good pictures that are more interesting the longer you look at them (we are Marla Frazee fans)2: can be read aloud without wincing at poor sentence structure, have good rhythm and sentence length3: are believable - the kids talk like kids, the interactions are within range of normal for the age group4: provide insight into the way children think/behave5: present problems without miraculous solutionsMarie keeps a little book by her bed for us to write down quotes from books that are particularly striking - are true, speak to our life experience, or are encouraging in the face of sadness/challenge. We get on average, 2-3 quotes from each Clementine book. The words "Family Meeting" strike fear into Clementine's heart. It seems like every time they have a family meeting, it's because of something she's doing wrong. But it's even worse than she expected: her mom and dad announce they are having another baby. This is NOT the kind of news she needed to hear, especially with everything that's going on at school. First, Margaret (her best friends) has started acting really strange since she came back from California. She's into make up and clothes and all that yuk! Then, her science fair project rat runs away and her science fair project partner thinks they should do a report on his "super powers" instead. And her favorite hat is missing! How will Clementine ever deal with all this?A great story about a loving family dealing with an exciting change in their lives with humor. Students will relate to Clementine's dilemmas
