Audiobook Review4 StarsWouldn't you hate to be trapped in Jonathan Mayberry's head? I've avoided reading or watching any zombie-esque works. I've never even watched 'The Walking Dead.' The thought of undead is so 1960's for me that it's old news, and really, really unpleasant news. But -- I finally broke my vow to stay away and read Code Zero. No, I consumed Code Zero, like a Walker driven to devour every word and still it wasn't enough. Joe Ledger, former spec ops now working for the Department of Military Sciences, combats not only deadly pandemic all-human-life destroying viruses and gruesome manufactured monsters, but also a psychotic megalomaniac female scientist and worst of all ... a politician. Yes, out of all of these things, I think I'm most scared of the politician.A wild read, and if you have no tolerance for guts and body parts flying, of ex-human creatures and a hell of a lot of shoot'em ups, then move on. All others -- this one was, um, fun? And yes, I actually could sleep last night. Ray Porter knocks this one out of the park with his excellent narration. I enjoyed Patient Zero and was very excited for Code Zero. Code Zero did not let me down. Very exciting the whole way through. Well thought out and well crafted. My only complaint was the number of typos that occurred during the last third of the book. Some were so glaring that it broke me from the 'zone'. Overall, I think I liked this one a little more than Patient Zero (hard to really know since I just finished it and it needs some time to marinate in my mind) but for someone getting into the Joe Ledger books, I would recommend starting with Patient Zero as there is a good deal of references made to it in this follow up.
What do You think about Code Zero (2014)?
My favorite so far in this series, though I will concede Joe, himself, is a pretty absurd character.
