Cold And Broken Hallelujah, A (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
FIVE stars means I'm hooked on Dilts' writing style. So entertaining, knowledgeable, comfortable yet edgy. Polishing off this, the #3 in the Long Beach Homicide series, I'm heavily emotionally invested in his characters now. They are more fascinating and appealing than the storylines; however the plots are compelling with unexpected twists and thoroughly believable. As so many of the formerly great whodunit authors turned to the phone it in, fill in the blanks format, its downright refreshing when a new and exciting author comes along to give thriller junkies a powerful fix. Recommend. This is an an Amazon book of the month (free) and is a good detective story concerning the burning of a homeless man by young men - showing off for gang membership. It delves into who this man, Bishop, was - his goodness and his weaknesses. It also explores family life - brothers who can choose gang activity, seeing no way out, or trying to protect family members. It talks about a homeless woman who was terrified of fireworks, etc, on the fourth of July - Bishop bought her a cassette player with head phones and then slowly danced (swayed) with her to help her calm her anxiety.A good book - easy read, some twists.
