Consent (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Forgot how much I loved Gavin and Ben. Now, there are things I take issue with, largely the realism of the plot. But these are easily overlooked with the intensity of the storylline, and the characters.I love these boys and while this was a real difficult read for me, it was worth it. Well written and balanced, and can I just say that I personally need to know more about McKnight?! Grandstanding, Egocentric, Shocking and violent; beneath Mr. Rose's awesome talents.Giving this book a three star review actually hurts me to do, as I am a huge A J Rose fan. Actually, I am giving it a two and a half, but they don't have that option, so it gets a three by default.A J Rose begins well. The premise of another amazing story is there, ready, dangling like a carrot for me to snatch at and follow along the dark twists and turns of the author's mind. I know this author is dark, and I know (I thought) what to expect. However...A lot of the description is there for a shock value. There could have been better ways to write Myah's ordeal and I'm sure if *anyone* could have found those ways, A J Rose could have, if he had tried. He never tried. Instead he chose to intimately describe rape in a way that was purely meant to dismay the reader. It was coarse, rude and uncultured, which is so far away from his normal style. The episode with Brady was the final straw for me. No-one, regardless of realism or the horrors of reality, needs to read an in depth description of a torn, swollen and ruined anus. There are ways to let the reader know what has happened, without having to give us a minutiae run through of that image. What on EARTH was going through the author's head, at this point in the writing process, I have no idea. I would also have expected an accomplished editor to pick this up and point out the grandstanding nature of this scene. It was appalling. There is 'graphic violence' and then whatever the hell happened here. 'Graphic Violence' is what happens to Gavin in Power Exchange. 'Graphic Violence' is the nightmare of Safeword. This was uncalled for and sick on a whole new level.I am so very disappointed. I had looked forward to the release of this book, and was really looking forward to reacquainting myself with Gavin and Ben. I skipped to the end after Brady's incident, unable to read more. This is saying something, as I made it right the way through 120 Days of Sodom, Mr. Rose. It was less graphic and perverted than this ostentatious egocentric drivel. You could have dealt with such a sensitive issue in a well thought out accessible way, but you chose to use the shock and horror of it to further your own ego and shock your readers.

What do You think about Consent (2014)?

A hard review to put into words. Captivating, mesmerizing, electrifying and flat out brutal.
