Corporate America (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This book was a delight. It started out with a bumbling main character that made me think the author was just going to give me a story about a misfit that failed in all he attempted. It ended up being a very entertaining story that paints a somewhat realistic but fanciful life in the C-suite. It makes fun of the left, right and center. It has corrupt politicians, limo liberals, and diabolical bosses. I don't know if Dougherty has written any other books, but I will check. Francis Scanlon can't keep his mouth shut. Consequently, he finds himself banished from the halls of academe, with an unfinished novel and an empty bank account. When all other methods of raising money fail, he swallows his pride and puts his writing skills at the disposal of the gigantic Prock Chocolate Corporation. Swimming with the corporate sharks, however, proves to be no simple matter. Will Scanlon learn fast enough to avoid his career being one of the shortest on record?Ethical dilemmas abound in this delightfully snarky take on the American Dream. Jack Dougherty, unlike his flawed hero, has put together a wonderfully entertaining book, a literate satire peopled by a cast of hideously self-obsessed characters. Will Scanlon sell out? Would you?Buy it. Read it. Laugh.
