Cowpoke Clyde And Dirty Dawg (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Cowpoke Clyde tries everything he can think of to wrangle his ornery, dirty, Dawg into the tub. When at last it seems like Dawg has won the battle, Clyde decides to take a bath himself. Sitting under the starry sky, in a tub of warm water, Clyde begins to sing... and who should splash into the tub with him, but Dawg. Together they get cleaned and howl at the moon. Howling good read for dog-loving cowpokes everywhere! When cowpoke Clyde tries to get Dawg into the tub for scrub, he ends up with every other animal or insect on the farm in the tub! This is a great read aloud where the audience can predict which animal Clyde has gotten into the tub, based on the rhythmical, rhyming text (which readers will confirm their predictions once the page is turned). Laugh-out-loud, adorable, and fun! As I read this, I naturally found myself using a southern drawl to dramatize and bring the tale to life! Yee haw! Rich, action-filled illustrations bring the story to life! Can't wait to share with students! So many possibilities to pair this book with for booktalks and theme programming.
