I wanted to like this more than I actually did, but it tries a little too hard to be 'transgressive' and not hard enough to tell a story. Dude has some interesting things to say, and I'll actually try another one of his books, but at the end of the day, a fair amount of this felt weirdly forced. The second half is a lot more interesting than the first, which just revels in rubbing your nose in as much appalling imagery as it possibly can. This book is vile. It's gross. It's disturbing. It's sick and twisted!! If you like that sort of thing then you will love this book!Personally, I hated the book. It was too warped for me and too far on the side of wrong. This is not an enjoyable read, but it is a compulsive read once you start.It's actually quite sad that Steven was just looking for love.The reason I gave it 3 stars is because this book is very well written. The descriptions of the carnage are excellent and you can almost smell and taste what you are reading. I have no idea what sort of person the author is, but I wouldn't like to be inside his head!!
