Craft-a-Day: 365 Simple Handmade Projects (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I opened this book yesterday in the bookshop and wasn't that impressed actually. It looked interesting outside, but a bit bland inside. However, I flipped through it and became more interested. I liked the themed weeks, some of the themes were really funny - don't you just love the moustache? - and it really was easy stuff to make. What really got me was the witch hat hair clip. I bought it. As many people have said, if you like making stuff anyway, it's maybe not for you. But as I am trying to do crafts with my daughter (6), things that don't require lots of time and mess, this is great. We already made rainbow straws and moustache sticks. This book has lots of easily adaptable ideas and inspiration. The only thing it needs is index by craft type, not just by theme. Craft-a-Day is an adorable book with directions for kids and parents to make a craft every day for a year. Each week is split up into thematic weeks, like star week or rabbit week etc. Some in line with holidays so the paper and fabric crafts you will be creating and hanging up will match the time of year. The Good:- Oodles of things to do, easy to work into a daily routine- Ordered thematically- Easy to do alone or with adult assistance- Made with lots of things you have on hand- Several crafts are alike, will be more familiar to childrenThe So-so- Lots of repeat/similar crafts just with different themes- Each week follows the same formula, paper/cutting, fabric craft etc.- You're going to have to find space for all the stuff you'll be asked to hang up and display- Some crafts will require more parental assistance for younger children- If you're not a super crafty person with a bunch of supplies on hand, you may want to stock upI think this is a very cute book, I am being a little bit nit picky on the so-so category. This is on our Christmas list, I think the kids would really enjoy it.

Some cute stuff to make, but lots of repetition and VERY similar patterns. Not that impressed.

Same review others said... Simple, repetitive, would be good for young children crafts.
