Margaret “Mags” McManus has been left a war widow in her early 20s. She is having an extremely difficult time adjusting and misses her husband Randy immensely. Mags has a very supportive group of people surrounding her and trying hard to get her out of her depression. Her in-laws who live very close to her, her best friend Cali, and Walker, Randy’s best friend, are all right there watching and working to help.It takes a long time for Mags to put her sadness aside and decide to join the world of the living. Walker spends a lot of time with her, making sure she is OK and it becomes apparent that he has deeper feelings for her. Both are grieving Randy’s loss and it just feels right for them to lean on each other. After some time, she begins to feel something more for him, but her feelings of guilt keep driving a wedge between them. Mags tries hard to just give in, but doesn’t know how to put aside the feelings she had/has for Randy and those that are beginning to take root for Walker. In this debut novel, we join Mags on her journey through depression, sadness, happiness, and love. We experience her “survivor’s guilt” in a way that is sensitive and human. The story pulls at your heartstrings and really takes you on an emotional ride. The writing is amazing and the flow is well paced. It does end in a cliffhanger that will leave you with your mouth open, just waiting anxiously to find out what happens next. I enjoyed this rather bitter sweet story of Margaret “Mags” McManus.& Her Fiance Randy/She is rapidly & sadly made a war widow at a very young age.She obviously finds life very difficult & misses her husband Randy dreadfully. Luckily she is not alone, she has her In-Laws, her best friend Cali & Walker, Randy’s best friend, all behind her to help. She slowly starts to learn to live again and possibly Love again? Can life really start to be great for her at last? This story takes us on Mags journey of overcoming her “survivors guilt” in a very sensitive way.I loved Mags, she was a very warm character, and I felt every one of her emotions. The other characters were great fun to learn about & Walker sounds dreamy. This is a lovely story, but very sad too.An exceptional debut novel.
