Cream Puff Murder (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I don't know why I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others, but a guess would be that Hannah was a bit more irritating. Yes, Hannah, there is a word called 'texting'. Language evolves, and she should know that having studied English literature. Do we speak the same as Chaucer did? No, of course not, because English evolved. New words were added, old ones dropped, and grammar changed. (Note that I'm not making the argument that there shouldn't be an emphasis placed on grammar, but merely that people need to recognize that grammar isn't as set in stone as people believe.)I have few nitpicks beyond that. I didn't really care about the dieting theme, and while I genuinely like Norman, can the man have a few faults and foibles? His one past arrest aside, he's too perfect and it makes him a little unbelievable. The same goes for Lisa, too. Also, I know it's a small town, but please get over the whole prudishness. If a woman sleeps over at a man's house, she isn't a slut, or a whore, or easy, or whatever else. Maybe it's just my experience living around small towns and in the country, but around here no one really cares. It must be different in Minnesota versus Pennsylvania. Sure, some would gossip, but generally anyone who gossips like that isn't worth your time.I do enjoy this series, and I like most of the characters. It just gets a bit too much sometimes. What do You think about Cream Puff Murder (2009)?

This is part of a mystery series set in Minnesota. I understood what was going on with the characters even though this is book 11. Nice, gentle cozy mystery. Good Minnesota humor, although there are times where I wanted to edit some of the dialogue because it was just slightly off. I think especially noticed it because I was listening to the story rather than reading it. Throughout the story, Hannah is on a diet and exercising to lose weight, but then cooking very fattening desserts, since she owns a coffee shop/bakery. I think I gained weight just hearing the recipes--they sounded very tempting. I put another book in the series on hold because I like Hannah Swenson, the protagonist and the other characters in the small Minnesota town she lives in.

I enjoyed the book as much as the #1Ladies Detective Agency books. Light yet thoroughly enjoyable!
