Cronicas De Egg. Aventuras En Las Islas (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
A delightful swashbuckling adventure from first-time author, Geoff Rodkey! Egg is a 13-year-old boy who lives on a tiny, rocky island named Deadweather. He is surrounded by siblings who hate him, a neglectful father, and a bunch of retired pirates who work his father’s plantation. When his father unexpectedly takes Egg and his siblings to visit the lovely nearby Sunrise Island, Egg’s life is flipped upside down. His family disappears under strange circumstances and Egg is left to fend for himself. From pirates, to mysterious Natives, to atrocious tourists, to falling in love with the unattainable but beautiful Millicent, to developing a friendship with a one-armed boy named Guts, and most importantly, to looking for undiscovered treasure, this book is a great start to The Chronicles of Egg series. You’ll be reaching for the second book in the series as soon as you put this one down!Reviewed by: Julia Pyatetsky, Youth Services, Vernon Area Public Library Egbert's had a rough life. He lives on a hot an humid island so stifling it's called Deadweather. The island is overrun with pirates and his family owns a plantation of Ugly Fruit trees. His brother and sister are terrible and beat on him frequently... And his name is Egbert. Then one day out of nowhere their father up and takes them on a trip to Sunrise island. They meet the Pembroke family and the powerful Mr. Pembroke is friendly and invites them to his house for a stay. Then Egbert's family disappears. For awhile he's happy. He's living with the Pembroke family and has taken on a new moniker, Egg. Then someone tries to kill him. From there Egg goes on a desperate journey running into pirates and soldiers trying to figure out why he was almost murdered and stop it from actually happening. This is te fort book in the Chronicles of Egg series and it's full of adventure and humor. Loaded with pirates and danger and stowaways readers will be rooting for Egg as he tries to figure out what to do and comes into contact with a few surprising allies. The book is loaded with interesting character and lots of action. It's also told with a sense of humor with the narration coming from Egg. He has a really great voice that readers will find engaging. I recommend this book for readers in 5-8 grades.
