I should’ve told you from the start what was happening, but I just didn’t know how. It would’ve felt like a betrayal to Shawn. He was going through a lot.” “You’re a good friend, you know that?” Mercedes asked, that smile never leaving her face. “I wish I had a friend as loyal as you. I would’ve left Mr. Paulson behind a while ago to focus on my own success. But you were determined not to give up on him, and that’s pretty telling indication of character—albeit one that has left your graduation date in the lurch.”
