Curse The Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4) (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
I've been really enjoying the series...until this book. There are some smaller niggles like the lack of continuation. Lets face it Cassie gets naked enough in this series but the Gecko tattoo is never mentioned again?? Same with Pritkins sword, we don't really hear much about it, even when she was checking out his nude body she'd never mentioned it. Also, the deal she had with the Fey. Pretty sure they realized they've been double crossed by now! And they were sheltering Tomas for her yet she seems to have forgotten this completely. My main issue with this is the fact that Cassie has the power now, but shes still totally useless. Shes constantly unable to defend herself and running from pillar to post to escape people trying to kill her. Nobodys given her proper lessons in self defense or basic magic!? I know Pritkin tried but man, its getting really really tired having such a useless heroine. Pretty sure shes getting dumber per novel, a box of rusty hammers is brighter than she is in this book. Another problem with Cassie, shes been told her vampire lover is basically keeping her in the dark on important things, she gets vaguely annoyed. Does she move out so she stands on her own two feet? no. She talks about not wanting to be controlled by anyone and is constantly letting herself be babied by them all. Its very uninspiring, she honestly has very little backbone when men are concerned. It comes through even more so in this novel with the mysterious brunette etc.GROW SOME OVARIES, CASSIE!! Only saving grace in this novel for me was Pritkin. Fingers crossed shes not such a wet flannel in the next installment. I got this book when I was a freshman in high school and often had it taken away then given back at the end of the day (along with countless other) because I was so engrossed in it. Have yet to read the first few in the series but every time I get, I read this one. I love this book because it's one where if you pick it up in the middle of the series you're not lost, there's still a fun ride along the way and you're not left wondering "okay, so what happened before?" but left asking "so what happened next?!". I didn't realize it was a series until I was finished and wanted to find out if there was a book two. Anyway, before I get long-winded, absolutely love this book, and as soon as I can, I'm going to get the entire series and possibly all her other books :)
