Dark Knight Rises: The Official Novelization (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

The Dark Knight Rises novelization was really good. I would recommend it because it is a great tale of redemption and bravery - how a man who was on top of the world falls to the bottom and rises up from the ashes. This book is best suited for Batman fans, but is still a great tale on its own. The title fits as well as a key fits in its lock - there is perhaps no other that would be better.Bruce Wayne has been inactive as Batman for eight years ever since the death of his love, Rachel Dawes, at the hands of the Joker, his archenemy. But when a mysterious thief gets on his trail, he finds himself putting on his old gear and getting back in the game as Bane, a terrorist with malicious plans, rises against him. In order to defeat him, he will have to dig deep and overcome his fear. The characters that really shine to me are, of course, Batman, Catwoman, and Alfred. Bruce/Batman shows a remarkable journey from recluse to hero, no small feat. After he is thrown into the prison Bane was born in, the only way to get out is by climbing a rope out of the well-like structure. He beats the odds by using the stimulation of the fear of death. Catwoman was also redeemed. She gains Wayne's fingerprints and gives them to Bane, who uses them to break Wayne's fortune. After she sees Bane cripple Batman, she realizes what she's done and tries to save him in the end.Lastly, Alfred was great. You can tell he really cares for Bruce because he quits his job as Wayne's butler, a job he's held for decades, to show Bruce that he's not Batman. This is important because Alfred has always been known as the loyal soldier of Batman; he follows orders to a T. Just because he quits his job shows how much he cares for Bruce, saying that leaving is all he has to make him understand.Although the ending was ok, the book overall is awesome and a must read, especially if you call yourself a Batman fan. I loved this book as much as I loved the movie. Of course I saw the movie before I read the book because I think the book came out after the movie. Christopher Nolan wanting to be all secretive and what not. This book was so close to the movie I felt like I was watching the movie the whole time I was reading. The author did a wonderful job of getting the reader inside the character's head and did a wonderful job getting around to every detail that happened in the movie. Great book! Highly recommended to any fans of the Dark Knight!

Cox captures the movie. Best to read with Hans Zimmer's soundtracks in the background.
