Dark Recollections (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

The inner/journal dialog of our protagonist Adrian can be a little (sometimes very) cheesy at times but the story itself is great. Told in diary form, Adrian tells us stories of surviving the outbreak Zombie apocalypse in the recent past and updates us with things going on in his present. I almost didn't get past the first few pages but stuck with it and I'm glad I did. This is one of the better Zombie books, I'm invested in the character and the unfolding scenario. 3.5 stars. This book gave that whole 'I Am Legend' type feel. (The movie because I have not yet read the book). It is one man's experience with the zombie apocalypse told in journal entries. Okay there are a few bits in it however that are flashbacks of other characters but I am so not a nitpicking type of reader. If the stroy is good, I'm onboard for the ride and I will have to say that it was pleasing to read about someone who is sooo prepared, apt and lucky during what basically becomes hell on earth. Adrian is not only former military, physically fit enough, humorous in a slang type way and smart enough to be the perfect survivor of the walking dead event-- he is also a really good candidate to follow in a journal type format. In other words, you know from jump that he is a survivor and that there are many intriguing tales to come! Convienant, hell yeah but anyway this book has more than its share of scares, thrills, gore and yet it also has a warm lovable cat! Yes a cat. Everyone hears about dogs in the apocalypse but Adrian's cat Otis is the perfect companion for this lone survivor! Definitely checking into the next installment.
