3 out of 5So the book was okay. It's light and entertaining. But I can't bring myself to give this book more than three stars and a half. Keturah was a bit unrealistic with her enthusiasm for going into war. And the way she killed a man like it's not a big deal. I mean, she killed a man for crying out loud! It doesn't matter how much training she received, she should be at least shook up after slitting a throat. Another thing I didn't like was the way they talked. It was a bit too modern for being in a time like that. And how Keturah didn't consider other people's feelings. I liked Zeke, Kalem, Kenai, Seth and Gideon though. Okay, so maybe I'm being a bit too hard on Misty Moncur. It's her debut novel after all. Well, though most of the things I've said so far are negative(pluss the kinda low rating), I liked the book. It was a good read and had a nice message. A great escape from all those dark and long books that I've been reading lately. I suppose I should be doing school right now, but I finally need to get my thoughts about this book down on here. School can always wait for Goodreads :P, lol. This book appealed to me so much because of the cover. A girl with a bow and arow. Kind of reminds you of The Hunger Games, right? Yeah, that was what was so appealing to me. Then the description sounded like great battle scenes and romance! What more could you ask for, right? Well, there is, in fact more you could ask for.Pros: Setting (Ancient time period isn't well covered... I love it that Moncur had the guts to do something completely different) and historical information (the historical facts were well developed and interesting--not vague to where I was guessing what time period I was actually reading about and not too informative that it reminded me of a text book :P). And I suppose that the romance was OK since it was decently realistic.Cons: Characters (yep, here we have that cast of boring and shallow characters, folks. Nothing exciting and new here.) and plot (too slow-paced).So, in a wrap, this was a decent book, but nothing I would recommend.
What do You think about Daughter Of Helaman (2011)?
I was not drawn to this type of book in the first place, and now I am giving up on reading it.
