Daughter Of Time: A Time Travel Romance (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a surprisingly addicting series. I wouldn't recommend these books to somebody looking for an intellectual read or an avid romance reader. (These books truly don't belong in the romance genra) The writing is imperfect and the plot flawed, but these books are very interesting, adventerous, cute, and just darn fun!If you are looking for a clean, entertaining, and light read, I can't recommend these enough! The heroine is a 20 year old widow whose husband domestically assaulted her repeatedly before dying of cancer. With literally no attempt at explanation, you are supposed to go along with her and her small child getting sucked across the ocean and back in time to an arbitrary date with scant connection to her previous circumstances. I understand that time travel isn't something that is supposed to make sense, but could we at least TRY to give SOME explanation or theory for why this date correlates with that one (and the same for randomly being transported from Pennsylvania to Wales)?!The author could have benefited greatly by increasing the age of Meg roughly 6-10 years to allow her greater depth of character and intelligence. It's blatantly obvious the only reason Meg's character is a victim of domestic abuse is to make her seem less two-dimensional and static. As it is, the rather short novel drags on and feels like Teen Mom meets that dreadful Kiera Knightley version of King Arthur. If you're looking for a romance, you won't find it here. Meg has two "passionate" kisses with her man; then time elapses for us to find she is for all appearances magically pregnant as we weren't told she and Llewyn were getting it on ever. I feel like this is what they told us would happen in catholic school. All in all, I'd recommend just picking up a copy of Outlander from your local library instead of wasting your time, even if this book is free.
