Dear Cary LP: My Life With Cary Grant (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
A very personal book, but for my taste too turgid. From her starry-eyed early days with Cary to the miasma of their decline and divorce, a good portion of it just felt a little over the top.Two things that struck me as I was reading the book: Dyan fibbed a lot--and when things started to go south, she showed very little personal strength.I also found myself wondering whether things might have gone differently had she continued just having a relationship with Cary rather than convincing him to marry her.I felt a little more sympathetic to Dyan when I read the letter that ends the book and when I looked at the photos. Still, when I finished I felt I knew little more about either Dyan or Cary. I approach reading these kinds of biographical accounts told through auto-biographical eyes with a degree of skepticism, especially when the person being written about is no longer alive. This particular book is well written, moves quickly and flows nicely. Cannon provides good insight into her personality, her career and her tumultuous relationship with Cary Grant. She tries to provide a balanced account of the different sides of Grant's personality by sharing multiple experiences - both charming and ugly -they had together. It is both a beautiful, romantic story, as well as a very sad one.

Fast paced. Who would have thought that Cary Grant would be tripping on LSD?
