Demon's Curse (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

The Imnada are an ancient race of shape-changers that have nearly been decimated by the Others (a type of fairy descendants). The Others have worked centuries to be rid of a species they find inferior and after thousands of years, they think they have succeeded... at least most of them do. A small group of Imnada during Waterloo were at a sight of a massacred Others family- the remaining Other cursed them all for his families death and almost a decade later they're still paying the price of their sins. Eneter Bianca Parrino; actress extraordinaire and rising star among the notable London ton. Bianca, after escaping a horrible marriage has decided that love and happiness in family are just not for her. She is attending her only friend's funeral when she makes the acquaintance of one Captain Mac Flannery. Mac and his fellow Imnada have given up hope for finding a cure to their curse, but Bianca offers a fleeting hope that ignites a powerful plot for revenge. I like this authors' carefree writing style. If you are fan of PNR, then this is a definite book for you. The time period is what makes this book so inviting though. The eighteen hundreds was a romantic period and Alexa Egan draws her readers in with a fine touch. The supporting characters were my favorites though- cannot wait to delve into the story of David. :D 4 Stars. Demon’s Curse is Alexa Egan’s debut where paranormal meets historical romance, with fey and shifters at odds with each other. Well, actually, where the fey think the shifters are all dead, and humans are none the wiser. From a long-ago war, four shifter soldiers suffer under a fey curse. Banished from their clans, they’re alone by choice and necessity. Until one of them dies, leaving a grieving human behind.Demon’s Curse is an interesting read. The hero (and his fellow cursed-Imnada) are a sorry lot — they’ve lost everything, after all, and there’s no end in sight for this purgatory they’re in. And yet, duty demands that they make sure no knowledge of the Imnada spread. Classic case of loyalty to those who’ve written you off…Mac (one of the remaining three, and hero dude in this story) eventually learns that 1. Bianca (the human) doesn’t know anything, 2. Adam (the dead) figured out how to remove the curse before he died, and 3. someone’s bent on killing the four of them — one down, three to go — but who? And why?I enjoyed the characters, though Mac’s a bit too tortured-soul for my taste. Bianca’s complicated, and almost a bit too rash in her actions. They’re lovely together though, which makes this a dang good romance. The secondary characters are varied and not always supportive, which gives the story flavor. The plot flows smoothly. The only thing I didn’t like much was the villain — too much repetition in action/thought/dialog. Overall, this is a pretty good debut and a nice introduction to the world of the Imnada.drey’s rating: Pick it up!
